POWERLESS TRIUMPH

We will never lack for kings and queens, by whatever title.
Human history, the structure of institutions, the rules of our sports,…...
It is all about personal power.
All the other rationales and reasons, the money, the security, the score, serve as mere pretext.
The opposite of spiritual Unity, in all politics and families, ultimately individual choices for power and the ensuing plays for power dictate the unfolding events.
The trait that distinguishes democracy from all other political systems is democracies nominal mitigation of that natural human proclivity to seek power.
We give power to another not when we follow their orders, but when we compromise the essence of our being, our values, allowing that scowling boss or spouse or despot to shape some aspect of our soul.
Power hates those who dare resist it.
The only real power is over the self.
Positions of power naturally attract people who have rejected Unity.
Unity and worldly power are polar opposites. Rejecting Unity is not mere benign collapse into Self, but is to instead choose to seek power over others.
Ontologically the underlying foundation of the nature of all human interactions lies in the Choice. From that Choice arises Unity or power (referring to power of the individual over another). That Choice provides the fundamental foundation of all history of relationships, families, societies, nations, and humanity.
It is not the efficacy of a business plan that determines the boss’ reaction to the proposal, it is the opportunity for power. Territory is secondary to the despot, drugs secondary to the gang leader, the household finances secondary to the dominating spouse…..these matters are actually all just opportunities for expression of personal power over others.
Perversely, those lusting for power will be the most obsequious to those in power, for to curry the favor of superiors is to gain power for themselves.
They will grandly wave policy, principles, profit, and patriotism as cause and justification, but in fact any convenient rationale will suffice. It is really personal power, the antithesis to Unity, that the dictator, the executive, and the dominating head of the family seek. Royal patricides, boardroom politics, and the percent of the economy invested in guns and cosmetics, all attest to this fundamental aspect underlying human history. It is why people so much more readily give “advice” than listen. It is why opinions do not change. It is why wars are inevitable and every powerful institution grows corrupt. It is why we believe our god will destroy their god, our team defeat their team.
Pernicious and pervasive, power battles itself, in hostile takeover, military coup, gang warfare, and empires battling empires. Each in turn falls, the victim of another, one power conquering another as the victims, the genocides, the abused spouses, the crippling sports injuries, the ranks of unemployed, the emotionally shattered children, the gang executions, the missing funds, the destitute retirees, accrue through the ages.
In counterpoint, in various guises through the ages of fallen empires and fortunes, endures a curious image, the antithesis of power, a Lamb, submissive in meekness, doomed in sacrifice, yet triumphant in strength, for the world that killed and daily kills it exercises no power over it. In surrendering all worldly power it was freed from the world. As today those worldly powers would control our lives, that Lamb tells us they need not control our souls. We too can be free, free even of the need for worldly power. Even as this world’s cold scowl momentarily threatens us, we can feel the warm security of the power over our own soul that arises from Unity with that Lamb.
